New in vScope: Support for Intune App Assignments

Axel Svegerud Axel Svegerud

With support for Intune App Assignments, you gain full control of application deployments in Microsoft Intune. vScope’s asset inventory provides instant visibility, clear reports, and alerts on changes – for stronger security, simplified compliance, and a complete overview.

A way to manage applications in Intune

App assignments are used to control which applications are installed, made available, and managed across an organization’s devices. Assignments can target users, devices, or groups, and make it possible to centrally control what software gets installed on end-user devices.

However, it’s not always easy to understand how these assignments actually take effect on the endpoints. This creates dependencies on specific individuals with access to Intune, even though this information is often critical for support teams trying to troubleshoot incoming tickets.

For the organization as a whole, incorrectly configured app assignments can lead to:

  • Security risks, audit findings, or compliance issues.
  • Unnecessary licenses and costs tied to applications.
  • Users retaining access to applications even after role changes or termination.

With the latest vScope update, we’ve expanded support for assets and configurations from Azure/Intune. This means you now get this information automatically updated and consolidated in one place.

What vScope adds with Intune App Assignments

With app assignments and their relationships to groups, devices, and user accounts, you get a more complete inventory and documentation of your Intune environment. This provides:

  • Quick overview: See all apps and who has them assigned.
  • Context across the IT environment: Navigate directly to users, devices, and licenses with a few clicks.
  • Ready-made reports: Identify apps without users, apps open to everyone, or unexpected assignments.
  • Alerts on changes: Get notified about new deployments, changed assignment rules, or added users.

All of this happens automatically – no manual exports or Excel management. We also provide ready-to-use content to help you get started, such as:

  • App Assignment Documentation: Assignments, settings (e.g. required), devices, groups, etc.
  • Conflicting App Assignments: Common misconfigurations, like apps set to both install and uninstall.
  • Assignment Targets: List who has received an app (e.g. specific groups, “all users,” or “all devices”).
  • Unused App Assignments: Identify assignments that are no longer used.

Business value

Even though app assignments are technical configurations, they have a direct impact on the business. Done right, they deliver several benefits:

  • Reduce costs: Identify unused apps to optimize licensing.
  • Strengthen compliance: Always know who has access to what – audit-ready at all times.
  • Improve security: Avoid excessive rights and unwanted access to applications.
  • Save time: Use prebuilt dashboards and reports instead of digging through the Intune portal.

In short: more control, less effort, lower risk.

Summary

With support for Intune App Assignments, vScope becomes an even stronger hub for IT visibility. You gain a more detailed picture of how your cloud environment is configured and how it impacts the end-user experience.

For IT leaders, this means better decision-making, stronger control, and faster access to facts. For the organization as a whole, it means lower costs, improved security, and simplified compliance.
