JEA and gMSA: Safer Access to Windows Environments

In this video, we walk through Just Enough Administration (JEA) and Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA) – two technologies in Windows and Active Directory that can be used to restrict permissions and reduce the need for traditional service accounts. The video is in Swedish with subtitles.

Among other things, we cover:

  • What JEA is and how it works
  • How JEA can restrict which commands and resources a user or service can access
  • What gMSA is and how password management works
  • How gMSA differs from traditional service accounts
  • How authentication and permissions work through Active Directory and Kerberos
  • When JEA, gMSA or a combination of both can be relevant
  • How this can be used together with vScope for secure collection of information from Windows environments

The purpose of the video is to make JEA and gMSA easier to understand and give a practical picture of how the technologies work. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. The right setup depends on the environment, which data sources are used and the organization's requirements for security and access.

vScope is an on-prem platform for automatic discovery and documentation of IT environments.
