EttIT gains one source of truth for five municipalities
With vScope, insights move fast between operations and the business. EttIT—serving Klippan, Bjuv, Perstorp, Åstorp, and Örkelljunga—gets a rapid overview of the entire environment, and the business gets the same up-to-date information without asking ops. That’s why EttIT chose vScope for inventory and reporting.
Key results at a glance
- Shared, always-current view across five municipal IT environments
- Automated reports to digitalization strategists without relying on IT ops
- Faster troubleshooting and fewer misconfigurations thanks to better visibility
- License costs are trimmed continuously as accounts and users are surfaced
For the cooperation to work, we need a transparent dialogue with the requesters about what is included in the IT delivery.
The challenge: spreading information
EttIT is a collaboration between five municipalities: Klippan, Bjuv, Perstorp, Åstorp, and Örkelljunga. Together they consolidated IT under one shared IT department to simplify and streamline delivery. EttIT functions as an internal “cloud provider” to the member municipalities. Digitalization strategists in each municipality order IT services and need ongoing transparency and understanding of the delivery. At the same time, the operations team must understand the business requirements for how services should be delivered, such as SLAs. Previously, reporting relied on manual Excel sheets and hallway conversations, which meant uncertain quality, personal dependencies, and time lost for ops engineers.
— For the cooperation to work as efficiently as possible, we at EttIT want a transparent dialogue with the requesters about what is included in the IT delivery, says Thomas Nilsson, CIO at Klippan municipality and EttIT.
A shared hub for facts and collaboration
— vScope gives our operations team full visibility of the entire IT environment in one place. It helps us improve and assure the quality of the delivery, for example by finding misconfigurations faster and working more proactively. In dialogue with the requesters in the municipalities, vScope has helped us improve our reporting process. We can now offer digitalization strategists better insight and understanding of their municipality’s order without depending on our ops technicians. It’s really smooth!
Thomas mentions several values from EttIT’s use of vScope:
- One view for ops: vScope gathers configurations, relationships, and history so the operations team sees the whole environment in one place and can act preventively.
- Self-service for the business: Digitalization strategists get their own reports and dashboards that stay updated automatically, with no manual exports or dependence on ops.
- Automated reporting: Scheduled reports replace Excel sheets and ensure recipients always see current data.
Value for different types of users
vScope’s asset registry delivers different outcomes for different roles. That makes the tool more valuable because it covers several use cases with the same system. The prerequisite is the automatic discovery that keeps all information updated and current for each role.
- Operations: Finds misconfigurations faster, prevents incidents (e.g., expiring certificates), and saves time on ad-hoc requests.
- Digitalization strategists: Gain insight into their municipality’s orders and status directly, making conversations with the operations team easier.
- Requesters/leadership: See costs and delivery more clearly and can work more independently with up-to-date facts about the IT delivery.
Reduced costs and proactive work
As noted, vScope can be used across many scenarios—from security and daily operations to license optimization and lifecycle management. EttIT quickly saw several concrete outcomes from automatically consolidating the municipalities’ documentation in vScope:
- License costs dropped when unused accounts in Azure and Active Directory became visible.
- Certificates nearing expiration were spotted in time, and disruptions were avoided.
- Support overviews via dashboards shortened the time from observation to action.
— This makes it easier to quickly tackle activities that give fast, concrete results for our requesters and users in the municipalities.
Next steps for EttIT
EttIT will extend vScope to more roles and functions in the municipalities so the business can handle its reports and documentation even more independently. The goal is to improve the experience and delivery of IT to residents.
